Thursday, May 09, 2013
NNA - Outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday said that the government's dissociation policy enabled Lebanon to stand in the face of the regional turmoil, mainly in Syria.
Mikati inaugurated today the 21st annual Arab Economic Forum (AEF 2013) organized by Al-Iktissad Wal-Aamal Group in cooperation with the Central Bank of Lebanon, the Association of Banks in Lebanon and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank.
The forum was held at Beirut's Phoenicia hotel in participation of 600 Arab and international figures.
In his word delivered on the occasion, Caretaker Premier said that despite some parties' rejection to the dissociation policy, the latter turned out to be the government's sound national choice.
He said any other alternative would have entered Lebanon in a vortex of which getting out would not have been simple and easy.
Mikati explained that the government did not fail to handle the humanitarian aspect of the Syrian crisis which was embodied by the influx of refugees to the Lebanese territories.
"When our potentials became insufficient to handle refugees' outgrowing numbers we called on the international and Arab community to help us," he said.
The caretaker Premier went over the government's accomplishments, mainly the integral plan to explore oil and gas which has come into effect months ago.
Addressing the audience, Mikati said the forum shall provide them with greater details on the Lebanese oil sector as well as its positive aspects which shall be employed in bolstering financial potentials of the government and performing numerous developmental projects.
